Recent Updates in Neuro-Ophthalmology Through Clinical Cases

Presented by Amrita Vuppala, MD

This talk will focus on current recommendations for diagnosis and management of commonly encountered/hot-topic neuro-ophthalmic conditions. We will focus on topics with recent advances in diagnosis such as Giant Cell Arteritis, Neuro-Ophthalmic manifestations surrounding COVID, Acquired esotropia, and the role of check point inhibitors in Neuro-Ophthalmology to name a few.

Dr. Amrita Vuppala is currently an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Neurology at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of South Florida, and her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences, St. Kitts. She then did her residency in Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by a fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins University, Wilmer Eye Institute. From there, she worked at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for several years before joining the faculty at Medical College of Wisconsin in 2022. Aside from neuro-ophthalmology, Dr. Vuppala also practice headache medicine, including the management of eye pain. 

Dr. Vuppala has a special interest in clinical education and started a Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship at MCW. She is also the Associate Program Director for the Neurology Residency and has a role in the medical school as a Learning Communities Navigator. She has obtained several teaching awards for her work over the years. Dr. Vuppala has also authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and reviews on various neuro-ophthalmic and headache topics. 

We begin at 6 p.m. with networking, appetizers, and cash bar, followed by the meeting and dinner at 6:45 p.m. Members are encouraged to invite guests.

TARGET AUDIENCE AND SCOPE OF PRACTICE
This program is intended for ophthalmologists and ophthalmological surgeons who work with patients that have eye diseases and disorders. The secondary target audience is ophthalmological residents.
