Corneal Neurotization: Do You Have the Nerve?"
This presentation will provide an introduction to a new treatment for neurotopathic keratopathy, called corneal neurotization. This is a surgery that relocates a healthy nerve to re-establish an impaired pathway. Corneal neurotization is the only method to treat corneal anesthesia, which is the underlying problem in neurotrophic keratopathy. Indications and requirements, a surgical video, and management will be presented.
Different Strokes for Different Pokes: Vision Loss Secondary to Steroid Injections
This presents the results of a systematic review examining vision loss associated with steroid injections to the periorbital area, face, and head. Outcomes, such as steroid type and location, time to presentation of symptoms, presenting visual acuity, treatments tried, and resulting visual acuity will be presented.
Anne Barmettler, MD, is Director of Oculoplastic Surgery and Associate Professor of both the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
