Eyelid Lumps, Bumps, and BeyondPresented by Jacquelyn Laplant, MD Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute
Eyecare providers are routinely faced with a wide range of lumps and bumps in clinical practice where the diagnosis is not always clear. Early recognition and intervention are essential for certain inflammatory and malignant neoplasms which can often masquerade as other lesions. This lecture will review the characteristics and terminology of common eyelid and adnexal lesions with an emphasis on diagnosis, management, and resource utilization.
Jacquelyn Laplant, MD is a fellowship trained, board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Laplant holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University in New Orleans and a medical degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She returned to New Orleans to complete her ophthalmology residency at Tulane University. After residency, she completed a fellowship in ocular oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, followed by a two-year fellowship sponsored by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASOPRS) at the University of Tennessee Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis and Tennessee Oculoplastics in Nashville.
Dr. Laplant treats a broad spectrum of oculoplastic disorders, including periocular and orbital tumors, infection and inflammation, facial disorders, trauma, tearing, and eyelid malpositions. She dedicates time to teaching as an assistant professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her research interests include pediatric orbital tumors and thyroid eye disease.
