Scleral Fixated Intraocular Lenses: An Adventure with The Spaghetti of AkreosPresented by Joseph Bogaard, MD, PhDIndiana University Health
Dr. Bogaard will discuss his journey with SFIOLs from residency to fellowship and during his early career years. He will go over, step by step, how he performs Akreos SFIOLs using videos, with special focus on the challenges and tips discovered along the way.
Joseph D. Bogaard, MD, PhD grew up in Chicago, IL where he attended medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his residency at Medical College of Wisconsin, where he regularly attended MOS meetings. After completing Vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at University of Virginia, he was excited to return to the Midwest as an assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Indiana University and since 2025 as the Service Chief of Ophthalmology at Eskenazi Hospital. Since residency, he has had an interest in combined anterior and posterior segment surgery, with a particular interest in secondary intraocular lenses, especially scleral fixated intraocular lenses. As faculty, he regularly teaches both cataract and retina surgery to the residents and fellows at Indiana University.
We begin at 6 p.m. with networking, appetizers, and cash bar, followed by the meeting and dinner at 6:45 p.m. Members are encouraged to invite guests.
